The purpose of this website is to create a simple way to access information about the plants that are visible all around us. In this website you will find information about moss, ferns, conifers, and flowering plants. This obviously doesn't include all the divisions out there but it does cover the basics. We don't claim to know everything about plants, but we do want to do it so other students like us can have a little help learning about plants.

Evolution
Plants share most of the characteristics of their ancestors green algae. Some plants remain dependent on a moist and humid environment. This is because the cuticle prevents evaporation to aerial parts of the plants. Then the stomata evolved. The stomata are small spores on the underside of the leaves, which open and close to control the movements of water, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. Then a gametangia evolved. This is where gametes are developed. The vascular system in plants specializes in the transport of water and nutrients from one part of the plants to another. Two common examples of vascular tissue would be the xylem which transports water and minerals from the soil up the plant and to give support to the plant, and the phloem which transports products of photosynthesis from the leaves down to other parts of the plant. Seeds give the plant means to reproduce. Without the seeds there would be no vegetation; they would become extinct.
